Girls Incorporated of San Antonio is an affiliate of Girls Incorporated, a national organization that “Inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.” With roots dating back to 1864, Girls Incorporated is the oldest girl centered organization in the United States. We have been transforming girls’ views of themselves and helping them recognize the endless stream of opportunities that exist for them. Today, innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their potential and self-worth, and prepares them to lead successful, independent and fulfilling lives.
Girls Inc. delivers nationally researched and evaluated programs to girls ages 6 to 18. The programs offered are designed and proven to empower girls and increase their self-esteem. Eight identity programs focus on the issues and challenges girls face every day and equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills to reach their maximum potential and to value and assert their rights. Programming focuses on science, math and technology, economic and media literacy, health and sexuality, individual and team sports, leadership and advocacy.

Girls Inc. is a home away from home. It is a place where girls come to be themselves. When they walk through the doors, they step away from preconceived notions and into a realm of new possibilities. At Girls Inc., girls discover that there is more to themselves and to the world than they realized. Girls allow themselves to try new things, to compete, and to succeed, as well as to make mistakes and learn from them. Girls find they can take care of themselves by nurturing and exercising their bodies and their minds. Girls Inc. of San Antonio offers center-based programs like Girls University, an award winning summer camp, and holiday camps throughout the year along with mother/daughter workshops. Outreach programs are provided through community partnerships with local school districts and community agencies.
Girls Inc. of San Antonio was established under the auspice of The Children’s Shelter in 2004. In 2006, Girls Inc. of San Antonio received full member status among the national organization and in 2007 received its’ 501c3 Status, making it an official nonprofit organization. The organization is governed by an all-female board committed to the Girls Inc. mission and well-being of girls in our community.
