REALity vs. Reality: A Raw Take on Teen Moms (Teen Pregnancy Prevention Town Hall)

Teens Lead Candid Discussion on Teenage Pregnancy Subsequent Births and Screen Documentary

In observance of National Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Awareness Month, Girls Inc. of San Antonio will host a teen led 2nd Annual Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Press Conference and Documentary Screening on the realities of teen parents on Tuesday, May 10 at 5:30 PM at Girls Inc. of San Antonio.

The press conference will convene a panel of community leaders and experts on the effects of teenage pregnancy and emphasis on the number of subsequent births occurring in San Antonio; City Councilwoman Ivy Taylor (District 2), City of San Antonio Project WORTH’s Mario Martinez, Seton Home Social Worker Angelica Cervantes and San Antonio Independent School District Youth Parental Coordinator Debbie Morgan will be on hand to engage in a candid discussion on the effects teenage pregnancy has on Bexar County.

Girls Inc. Mentor Valuing Peers (MVP) participants ages 14 thru 16 will moderate the press conference, facilitate Q&A and will screen their raw documentary featuring interviews of Seton Home private residents and present their case study on MTV shows, 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom as to how reality” shows do not capture the REALity in the lives of teenage parents.

The event is free and open to the public, RSVP is not required.  Teens are highly-encouraged to attend.

The purpose of the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Press Conference and Documentary Screening is to provide an in-depth look at the realities of teen pregnancy and the social, economic, personal and academic impact it has on the lives of the teen parent(s), child, grandparents and community.
